Homework at Ansford Academy
At Ansford Academy, we believe that homework plays an important role in supporting students’ learning, progress, and long-term success. Regular independent study not only strengthens understanding of classroom learning but also helps students develop the skills they need to thrive in their GCSEs and beyond.
Why Homework Matters
Research shows that well-structured homework has a positive impact on academic outcomes. It helps students to:
- Reinforce knowledge and skills taught in lessons, leading to stronger recall and deeper understanding
- Prepare for assessments, ensuring they are ready to achieve their best at GCSE level
- Build habits of independent learning, which are essential for success in Post-16 education, apprenticeships, and future careers.
Skills for Life
Homework is more than just an extension of classwork, it is an opportunity for students to develop vital personal skills, including:
- Time management – planning and balancing study alongside other commitments
- Organisation – keeping track of deadlines and prioritising tasks effectively
- Resilience and independence – learning to tackle challenges and solve problems without immediate teacher support.
These skills are crucial not only for academic success, but also for life beyond school.
Our Approach
Homework at Ansford Academy is carefully planned to complement the curriculum and is set with a clear purpose. Teachers provide guidance and feedback to help students gain the maximum benefit from their independent work. We encourage parents and carers to support their children in developing good study routines and to celebrate the effort they put into learning at home.
How do I know what homework has been set?
All teachers upload homework tasks onto ClassCharts. They will include a clear description of the project and what resources may be required to complete it successfully. A deadline will be set for each piece of homework and it’s important that students meet these.
