KS3 Target Grades
In line with MNSP Policy, it is our intent that students at Ansford are given opportunities and support to achieve higher outcomes at KS3 than others nationally. We work with Trust staff to allocate all students when they join us aspirational grades to aim for by the end of the KS3, called Target Grades. These targets will enable students here to make better progress than other students with similar prior attainment profiles nationally.
KS3 Target Grades enable students to:
- have an aspirational but achievable goal to aim for
- have confidence in their potential
- achieve their personal best by applying effort and following their teachers’ instructions
- plan for their next steps in education
KS3 Target Grades enable teachers to:
- plan differentiated work that is appropriate for the needs of individual students
- encourage students to see what outcomes they can achieve
- continue to add challenge by further raising targets where they are exceeded by students
- challenge and support students who are underperforming
KS3 Assessment Grades
Students are set targets and are measured against them, in reference to Age Related Expectations. Students are set on a Flightpath and sit regular assessments, where they are informed their ‘Working Towards Grade’. Each KS3 correlates to a graded GCSE outcome:

where:
Developing – students are in a Flightpath where they are working towards age related expectations
Meeting – students are in a Flightpath where they are meeting age related expectations
Exceeding – students are in a Flightpath where they are exceeding age related expectations
S – students are meeting some of the criteria in that Flightpath
M – students are meeting most of the criteria in that Flightpath
A – students are meeting all of the criteria in that Flightpath
Students’ receive at least 3 formal assessments a year within each subject area. Where a student is shown to have exceeded their target, students will be congratulated and, their target will be raised accordingly to ensure there is always an extra amount of challenge and ambition.
