Spring Term Highlights

7th February 2025Rebecca Comyns

This is a busy term, as ever.

Some key highlights are:

  • Its Mr Musson’s first term as Head of School. We know he will do a great job.
  • Year 9 will be choosing their options for next year and will be supported in this process by Mr Mitchell.
  • Our Youth Speaks Team continue to win their heats and progress up this competition.
  • Our Hospitality and Catering Year 11’s have their practical exams.
  • The ‘I can & I am’ bus is in school  – The I Can & I Am team visit schools around the South West on board the buses working with pupils and staff, providing valuable tools to help improve self-esteem and maintain good mental health. The buses have a fully fitted kitchen downstairs and casual seating upstairs which provides a novel, fun setting which is engaging for all pupils. They are designed to provide a mix of practicality with a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
  • There are parents evenings for Year 7, 8, 9 and 11
  • There continue to be the myriad of sports fixtures and clubs.

Half term is Monday 17 Feb – Fri 21 Feb and we say farewell to the Spring term and break up on Friday 4 April at 1pm.

Fund Raising for CaryCares

1st November 2023Rebecca Comyns

We are a community school at heart and the last half term finished with our students giving something back to the community as our MUFTI day raised £352 for CaryCares. This local charity which was chosen by Student Council, to benefit from the funds raised from our
non-uniform day. Thank you to families for the generous donations of dried food items which we collected today and which will be delivered after half term.

CaryCares supports residents and organisations local to the parishes of Castle Cary and Ansford through the provision of food, essentials and grants, both material and monetary, in order to offset financial hardship and emotional distress.

Student Council

10th October 2023Rebecca Comyns

We are thrilled to announce the formation of our 2023/24 Student Council.  Stronger than ever and keen to help drive forward further initiatives and ensure that students are well represented in decision making, our 42 strong team undertook a formal training event helping to shape the vision and structure of sub teams.  This week, students were asked about their understanding of Safeguarding within schools and spoke highly of the current access to support that our students enjoy, if and when needed. They also helped to identify areas and
tools which exist but require ongoing promotion to ensure all students know how to use these to support their mental health or ability to anonymously report concerns.

Supporting Community Sports

19th September 2023Rebecca Comyns

We are lucky to have a fantastic sports centre and regularly host community sports teams including netball, football, pickleball and badminton. We offer a competitive rate to our local groups to ensure our facilities support the wider community.
If you are interested in booking the sports hall or other rooms at school please contact our lettings Clerk Helena Read on [email protected]
